I admit that I am often skeptical of New Year's Resolutions, and find them frequently empty and cheap. However, I also think because of the common lack of follow-through, New Year's Resolutions have gotten tossed out with the bath water. And while for many these types of decisions and commitments may not be a good fit, I think there are also many who can not only benefit from making a New Year's resolution, but truly thrive. So if you are one of those people, or would like to be, I have here three simple ideas to jump start what could be a simple but profound change to your 2012:
1. Read the book Radical and follow its one year challenge at the end of it. It's an easy but extremely compelling read. You can start it now, and have your one year challenge ready to go on January 1st, or begin reading it for the new year, and let your challenge carry you into 2013!
2. Read the Bible in a year. It's a lot, yes, but SO worth it. I love the Bible reading plan I'm following because the days of the week are divided by different areas of the Bible- Epistles, history, etc. So I'm not bogged down for a while in an area that may be more difficult to read:)
3. Pray for the whole world in a year. Operation World is such a neat book- it goes through every country in the world, divided over the days of the year, giving stats and prayer requests for each place. You can also follow the plan on their website, so you don't even have to buy the book if you don't want to!
I hope this new year draws you closer to Christ and brings Him more glory! Happy soon to be New Year!

Great ideas, Emily! Thanks for sharing! I have wanted to read that Radical book for a while, what a great idea to make it a resolution!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am SUPER excited about the Operation World website - I am really bad about being aware of the different areas of the world so I think Z & I will pray around the world together - a geography lesson focused on praying for the different areas of God's world - all in one! :) I'm getting really excited just thinking about it. :)
